Dierks Bentley

Fact Sheet

Musical genre:Christian, Country
Phoenix native Dierks Bentley has been working his way up the ranks of the country music scene. Moving to Nashville at the age of 19, Dierks began playing around town and quickly gathered a following of college students who wouldn't miss a show. It was at one of those shows that Dierks got to share the stage with Vince Gill, who had come in with Amy Grant to have a listen. Eventually, an independent record that he'd made got into the right hands, which landed him a publishing deal, and later an album deal with Capitol Records. In 2003 he released his first major label solo album with Capitol, Dierks Bentley. The debut single, "What Was I Thinkin,'" hit #1 on both the Billboard and R&R country charts, the first time an artist's debut single had done so in over two years. The album was certified Gold (R), and has earned Dierks a Best New Artist nomination at the 2003 Academy of Country Music Awards.
