She was offered a record deal by Columbia Records in 1991, but declined as she felt she wasn't yet ready.
In 1996, Marshall signed to Sony Records, and released her self-titled debut album that year. The album was a massive hit in Canada, spawning six Top 40 hits -- "Let It Rain", "Birmingham", "Beautiful Goodbye", "Dark Horse", "Fall From Grace" and "Sitting On Top Of The World". It was also a significant hit internationally.
In 1999, she released her follow-up album, Tuesday's Child.
