Röyksopp (sometimes typed 'Royksopp' and 'Røyksopp') are a electronic music duo based in Bergen, Norway (although both were born in Tromsø) composed by Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge formed officially in 1998.

Although around the early 90's Brundtland and Berge were school partners and did experiment with electronic instruments to produce music, 'Röyksopp' only appeared years later when they met again in Bergen.

The duo debut album (Melody A.M., released by Wall Of Sound) popularity was boosted by a infographic-style videoclip by french company H5 for the 'Remind Me' track, which won the 2002 MTV Europe Music Award for best music video. They have worked with several other norwegian musicians such as Frost, Kings Of Convenience, Those Norwegians, and Drum Island.

The name Røyksopp means literally, "smoke mushroom", which is the Norwegian name for the Lycoperdale genus in the fungus kingdom; a type of mushroom that will make a smoky cloud if touched.
