Survivor is a rock band formed in 1978 by Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. Jim Peterik was the former lead vocalist in the band Ides of March. Dave Bickler, Gary Smith and Dennis Johnson were temporary members, until they were replaced by Stephen Ellis and Marc Doubray.

They are mostly known for their hit "Eye of the Tiger", which became the theme song for the motion picture Rocky III in 1982. Sylvester Stallone was the person who asked Survivor to write that song. "Eye of the Tiger" stayed on the Billboard charts for about six weeks making it their first smash hit.

In 1983, Dave Bickler resigned from the band because of medical problems; Jimi Jamison, former member of the band Cobra, took his place after he left.

Their songs "High On You" and "The Search Is Over" gave them more fame in 1985. They also wrote the song "Burning Heart" as the theme song to Rocky IV in 1986.

In 1989, Survivor disbanded.
