At the end of 1999 they began writing new material and recorded their 13-track 2nd album Blue, which was released on November 23, 1999. Third Eye Blind took almost 5 years to release their 3rd album, Out of Vein.
A common misconception is that the name of the band is a euphemism for penis. In a recent interview on a radio station, Stephan Jenkins replied that the band's name comes from the idea of a mind's eye that he read about in a book. The other group members liked it and they chose it to be the band's name.
