Terence Trent D'Arby
His debut album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby, released in 1987, is his best-known and most successful work. The album sold over a million copies in the first three days of release and a total of 12 million.
D'Arby received a Grammy Award in March 1988 for best male R&B vocal performance.
His song "Sign Your Name" has been covered more than 30 times by other artists.
As of 2002, he had released five albums, not counting early work with a band called The Touch (1983, re-released 1989).
His music has also been included on several movie soundtracks.
In October 2001 he officially changed his name to Sananda Maitreya, a name which he says came to him through several dreams. He started his own recording label, Sananda Records, and is now an independent recording artist.
