Maria Mena
Maria Viktoria Mena (Born: February 19, 1986) is a Norwegian pop star.
Maria Mena was born into an artistic family. Her mother wrote plays and her father Charles was a drummer. Both Maria and her little brother Tony is named after character from West Side Story.
Her father, Charles Mena, played in several groovey bands in Oslo, but his daughter prefered simple teen pop when she grew up. Her father is from Nicaragua, but he grew up in New York City before he moved to Oslo.
Marias Lullaby
When Maria was nine years old her parents divorced. The time after that was very rough on Maria. Maria got depressed and suffered from an eating disorder. When Maria was 13 years old she moved to her musician father. She sang and wrote texts as a therapy for her feelings and frustration. Not all the stories in her diary became a song but "My Lullaby" was one of them. After bugging her father to make a demo, he collected the right people in a studio. Then he presented his daughters demo to the music industry.
Many fans
After Rune Lem heard the 14 year olds demo with "My Lullaby" he contacted the record company Sony that immediatley loved the idea of the project. Now Maria got her own record deal. One year later, in January 2002, came Maria Menas debut singel "My Lullaby". The song got played on high rotation on NRK P1, P4, Radio 1, Radio Oslo and NRK Petre. The young singer quickly gained fans. On the hottest the single was on top 5 on the VG-Lista Topp 20 and secured Marias first gold record.
