Stina Nordenstam is a Swedish singer and musician. Stina's distinctive, breathy voice lead to early comparisons with artists like Rickie Lee Jones and
Bjork. Her early albums, Searching for a Color and
And She Closed Her Eyes were significantly jazz-influenced but with 1998's
Dynamite she started down a darker, more experimental path. An album of covers,
People Are Strange, followed before she returned in 2002 with
This Is Stina Nordenstam, an album with shorter songs and a poppier (but still highly distinctive) feel. Slightly reclusive, she gives very few interviews or live performances, leading to This Is being promoted through an accompanying DVD full of promotional videos by young, largely unknown directors.
