Keane are a British rock band that broke into the charts in 2004 with their debut album Hopes and Fears.

Their musical style resembles those of many Britpop bands, especially Coldplay, except that they don't have a guitarist, only basing their music on the piano and drums.

Keane hail from Battle in East Sussex. All the members studied at Tonbridge School in Kent. They started out in college in 1997 as a cover band, playing songs by U2, Oasis and The Beatles but soon wanted to start performing their own material. Simon Williams of Fierce Panda records was asked by a mutual friend to attend a Keane gig in London and was so impressed that he offered to issue the band's next single. "Somewhere Only We Know" reached number 3 on February 22, 2004. Keane signed to Island Records and their 2004 debut album, Hopes and Fears, became the biggest selling album in the UK for one week.
