History
The original name of the band was Saron Gas. The band rose to fame with the single entitled "Broken". It featured
Amy Lee from
Evanescence and was also included on The Punisher soundtrack. Critics frequently accuse Seether's lead singer, Shaun Morgan (formerly Shaun Welgemoed), of purposely imitating the legendary lead singer of
Nirvana,
Kurt Cobain. Seether's covers of various Nirvana songs at live events has only fueled more such criticism. Also, there have been many misunderstandings about Seether. People say that the band had fights with the record label (Wind-Up Records) about cussing in the CD Karma & Effect. That is an urban legend. Shaun Morgan wanted to try something different artistically, and the record label had nothing to do with the cussing situation. However, Wind-Up had a lot to do with the title of the album. Originally, Seether wanted the name of their new album, Karma & Effect, to be called Catering to Cowards, but the label took offense to the name and so the band changed it to Karma & Effect.Their song Remedy was the official theme song of the 2005 installment of WWE SummerSlam
