Origins
The band were originally promoted as the "other band" of Joey Jordison, the drummer of Slipknot, or a "collaboration" between Jordison and Tripp Eisen, created after the disbandment of The Rejects.Although, as the group grew more popular it came to light that Wednesday 13 was the driving force behind the band. Most of the tracks on the Murderdolls album coming his previous band Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13, which introduced a whole new audience to the past music of Wednesday 13.
The band are often described as "Mötley Crüe meets the Misfits" by critics and fans alike. Bassist Eric Griffin bares a considerable resemblance to the Mötley Crüe bassist; Nikki Sixx
Shock Rocker Marilyn Manson made a guest appearance in the bands promotional video for "Dead In Hollywood", returning the favour of Joey Jordison earlier appearing in his video for "Tainted Love".
Since their formation in 2001, the Murderdolls have toured with acts varying from Iron Maiden to Queens of the Stone Age, Papa Roach and Foo Fighters. The band have had limited success in the United States so far, but their core fan base seems to be in the United Kingdom and Japan.
The group even performed White Wedding on the UK's Chart show; Top of the Pops. In other TV appearances they featured in a Halloween episode of Dawson's Creek, where they performed the songs "Dead In Hollywood" and "197666".
At the moment the band are focusing on other projects, but there is great speculation as to whether they will reform in the future. Although the official word so far is; the group have not split up for good.
Since the Murderdolls have been on a break the members have worked on various projects such as:
- Wednesday 13 is recording under the Wednesday 13 name, as well as resurrecting the Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13.
- Joey Jordison is drumming full time for Slipknot.
- Acey Slade is the singer (and guitarist) with Trashlight Vision.
- Eric Griffin has toured as guitarist with Faster Pussycat and Roxy Saint. He is currently in the band Napoleon Blownaparts.
- Ben Graves filled in as drummer on the Japanese tour for the band Dope.
