Nicky Byrne
Before joining Sligo-based band IO You he tried to become a professional football player and had joined Leeds United F.C. as a goalkeeper in 1995. He had even played for Irish Youth National teams. After failing to make the first team he returned to Dublin and formed "Westlife" in July 1998 with Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Bryan McFadden. Westlife had twelve number 1 singles in England and have published 4 pop albums, 1 greatest hits album and one swing album (latest update July 2005). They've had succes all over the world especially Scandinavia and South East Asia. Westlife have had record-selling indoor arena tours and are one of the biggest pop acts to ever come out of Ireland.
Nicky is married to Georgina Byrne, former Ahern, daughter of Irish Taoiseach (prime minister), Bertie Ahern. They tied the knot in August 2003.
In Westlife's music, Nicky is known for his husky singing voice, which is featured in all of Westlife's music.
