| Hello. I used to live in North Hill Street, Dingle, not far from Gerry and Freddy. They gave me and my friends a lift home a few times from the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton so that we wouldn't have to miss half of the show by leaving for the last train. Right now, I am a (very) mature student at University of Liverpool. I am studying the History of Popular Music and I need to know from Gerry what made him write Ferry Across The Mersey, what the Mersey and the song mean to him, and why he chose to stay on Merseyside instead of deserting the area like many of his contemporaries did. This is for an essay I need to do within the next two weeks. My friends and I took part as extras in the film 'Ferry...'. The students and lecturers are made up when I begin to speak of Liverpool in the late 50s/early 60s. What a city it was! Anyway, I live on the Wirral, like Gerry but am always over in Liverpool as that is where most of my family still live. An early reply to this letter would be greatly appreciated. Rita Martelli.
