| | Always something good/ Country Soul | |
As one of my old LP vinyls is titled, "Mr. Country Soul". I can always find something good in everything Don has ever recorded or written. Lots of times, it's stuff I've heard over and over, but it just seemed to click with me at that moment. I'm so glad I have all of these CDs available from Amazon. Especially the ONE with You Win Again on it. I cannot get enough of playing that song over and over. I have never heard a better version of it. Not even from Hank. You can distinctly hear Floyd Cramer on piano, Pete Drake on Steel Guitar, Chet on Electric Guitar, Don on acoustic and what I think may be Roy on bass.
April 13, 2008This recording with Don Gibson's voice supported by fantastic guitar playing will have you playing it over and over again. Well worth owning.
September 30, 2007 | | Beware, NOT Original Versions
I bought this cd a little too fast and did not notice it was from a knock off firm and the resulting recordings are pale imitations of Don's original hits. This one goes in the trash bin while I seek out the real stuff.
April 3, 2007 | | A pale substitute of the great Don Gibson
All of Gibson's recordings after 1968 (his last year with RCA)have this "sound-alike" quality, a cheap imitation of the great recordings Don made under the watchful eye of Chet Atkins, during his RCA years. To hear Don Gibson at his best, be sure the label says RCA, not Hickory.
