Stet was the first "hip-hop band" - maybe not as much a real band as, say, the Roots are. But nonetheless something different in their time.

Quite an eclectic mix for '91 - sometimes fun, sometimes serious. I think it's a slept-on old school classic. The MC's all have their own unique great delivery.

It's surprising that they all pretty much fell off the face of the earth after this one (except for Prince Paul).

This cd's been out of print for awhile, so it might be hard to track down. February 19, 2004

I wrote this review just b/c someone else wrote a terrible review. For your info, Stetsasonic is one of the founding groups of hip hop. They are a great live band and pioneered the way for groups such as the Roots. Many consider this to be Stetsasonic's best and most diverse album. The group includes: DJ's "Prince Paul" Huston and Leonard "Wise" Roman, keyboard, drummer and DJ Marvin "DBC" Nemley, and rappers Glenn "Daddy O" Bolton, Marvin "Delite" Wright, and Bobby "Frukwan" Simmons. Im not sure what rating to give this. This is either a one star in terms of new school or an old school classic. I bought this because Prince Paul is the producer, but he doesnt even produce half the tracks and he even rhymes a little. On the ones he does produce, he doesnt sound anything like his recent work. So I wouldnt buy this album for that reason. The lyrics are very old school and pretty simple. To me most of the material ends up sounding the same, and I had trouble listening to the whole thing. There are more live instruments which is a plus, so if you like the Roots you might try this, but I dont like old school very much, so I cant say that I liked it. September 2, 1999
