Volume Two in the Ducument labels complete and chronological Mamie Smith series is highlighted by the saucy "Mama Whips, Mama Spanks." Although I would highly recommend Volume One in the series(which includes the historical 1st blues ever recorded "Crazy Blues") first, this is a fine addition to Documents excellent series.

Note: Backing Mamie Smith are her Jazz Hounds which feature musicians like Coleman Hawkins, James P. Johnson, and many other fine New Oleans and Dixieland jazz musicians.

Recommended, but get Volume One 1st. February 23, 2000
