Love this CD. Great easy listening Celtic music. I'm constantly playing it. Never knew D. Arkenstone before, but now he's one of my favorites.
December 12, 2007 | | David Arkenstone never fails to please !
I own many of David Arkenstone's cds though not all of them as yet. This was the first one I purchased and since then I continue to find more to like about his music compositions. Celtic Book of Days is one of my favorite cds to pull out and listen to over and over again. I never get tired of it. His other cds have never failed to please either though this is by far my most listened to cd. I recommend David Arkenstone highly.
April 1, 2007The Celtic Book of Days (released in 1998) is David Arkenstone's eleventh full-length album. The material consists of Celtic music--15 tracks. Overall, I find the songwriting to be gratifying, the musicianship to be proficient, and the sound quality to be satisfying. Arkenstone sings on "The Boats." My favorite pieces are "Equos Fair," "Heart of Spring," "In the Ancient Time," and "Cailleach's Whisper." The kinetic "Equos Fair" provides infectious melodies. "Heart of Spring" is plaintive and pretty. The beautiful, serene "In the Ancient Time" is sung a cappella by a choir. I like the mournful "Cailleach's Whisper," with its attractive uilleann pipes. Included in the CD foldout is text dealing with Celtic lore. The album cover artwork is also interesting, and the color photo of Arkenstone on the back of the CD jewel case is nice. The disc is almost 67 minutes. Arkenstone is a talented artist. Actually, I rate this piece of work 3.5 stars. The Celtic Book of Days is recommendable.
October 8, 2006Being a dancer and of Celtic spirit; I am enchanted with the song "DRAGON'S BREATH." I attend Celtic and Renasaiance Festivals. This piece of music is my favorite. The melody is sensual and free spirited.
September 20, 2006 | | Very Good Album, very much worth your time.
As a long-term fan of David's, I have stayed with him as he explored different directions of his craft. While some critics are correct in pointing out Celtic Book of Days is not "true" Celtic music, this is nonetheless a fine album in it's own right. It's not meant to be a study of traditional Celtic musicology, rather a picturesque romp that happens to have a Celtic flavor to it. If you like David's other works, I'm sure you'll like this as well. I received this album for Christmas 1999 and played it to death for the first few days. To this day it is still one of my comfortable favorites. As an aspiring writer, I credit the repeated listening to this album with helping me create a story about olden times in Britannia when life was simpler and filled with adventure, wonder and, most of all, MAGIC!
Let this album so inspire you as well.
