Its difficult to find all the right words for a film score that literally can bring you to tears. That is the result of a brilliant and moving composition of a reacurring main theme thoughout the soundtrack. Rarely do you find music of its kind that has the ability to tug at the heart strings in such a way as in Portman's score to give you a feeling of inner peace. With haunting overtones of Asian flavor, to experience the melodious themes of The Joy Luck Club will prove to be a rewarding experience not to be forgotten. BRAVO PORTMAN!

The sountrack is beautiful just as is the movie. It mirrors the Chinese culture with grace and honor. Please, if you enjoyed the movie, you must invest in this product. You will not be dissapointed.

This is an amazing sound track. The music is distinct in trying to convey a single idea and continuity throughout. It was a moving and powerful soundtrack. With the unique styles and instruments used, it was a rare pleasure to listen to and feel the music.

I was very disappointed by this soundtrack. It contains seemingly only one song, that featured in the opening credits, stretched out for the entire CD under different titles.
I was hoping it would contain the beautiful folk music featured in the film as well as the opera singer's love song at the party where the young wife realizes her husband is having an affair for the first time.
I really was disappointed. It was like having a taste for genuine Szechuan cuisine and getting a can of La Choy instead. June 17, 2001
The score to THE JOY LUCK CLUB is one of those exquisite gems that you always search for but rarely find. The sweeping music on this CD is definitely enough to bring you to the verge of tears; it speaks volumes on love, commitment, and pain. Definitely one of the best scores of the 1990s, and for relative unknown Rachel Portman, a true hallmark in what promises to be a rich career. If you're hungry for a good, dramatic score--and one with Chinese overtures--then this is the disc for you. Buy it!
