I bought this album back in 1992 when "Trout", a duet with Michael Stipe was a hit on the alternative station here in San Diego, 91X. I wasn't at all prepared for the introspective lyrics, most of which have resonated through me to this day. I already owned her first album "Raw Like Sushi" and liked it, although I found it a bit, well precious for lack of a better term. On this album Neneh entered the realm of my favorite songwriter of all time, Joni Mitchell. For a serious music fan this album is a must have. February 6, 2008

Neneh's best album. Powerful lyrics with a strong groove. Quite different to her other albums. Highly reccommend it. February 27, 2006

An underrated and very interesting record, "Homebrew" is a fine effort that wisely captures the musical zeitgeist of the early nineties. Creative and diverse, Neneh Cherry`s sophomore release combines pop, soul, rap, dance, spoken-word and, most importantly, is one of the first albums that presents some songs that origin the genre known as trip-hop. Although a bit uneven, this is still a landmark record that manages to be relevant today. Some of the hip-hop oriented tracks are a tad dated now, but the electronic and sophisticated ballads "Move With Me", "Peace in Mind", "Somedays" and "Red Paint" are as excellent as ever. An unnoticed gem worth discovering, "Homebrew" as much to recommend.

rating: 5 QuoteGreat CD!Quote
Bought many years ago, Homebrew still remains one of my favorite albums of all time. This CD is one of the few discs, where I don't have to utilize the skip button on my CD player. Unlike many other albums, where only one or two songs are great, all of the tracks on Homebrew are good. I particularly like the great variety this album offers. Including slower songs such as "Move With Me" and "Red Paint", as well as more upbeat pieces like "Money Love" and "Buddy X", this disc showcases Neneh Cherry's wide ranging talent. Personal favorites include: "Money Love", "Buddy X", "Somedays", "Trout",and "Red Paint". May 2, 2003

The eclectic Neneh Cherry hooked me with Buddy X years ago. She has a rough quality to her, a creative edge that makes her music both gritty and interesting. I recommend trying her as well as others like Cree Summer. October 25, 2002
