Those who bought this CD, knew Curt was gone. I always felt Roland was a stronger songwriter; so I knew what I was getting, Roland's honesty and all the rest. I love the title track Elemental, and also Fish Out Of Water. This was not an overproduced affair like Sewing The Seeds, there is an energy behind Power and Fish Out Of Water that simply cannot be denied. I was prepared when I saw Roland & Co. tour behind Elemental, the live show was Fantastic. Elemental sounded better live than the CD, and Gail Ann Dorsey was wonderful singing on Woman In Chains & Badman's Song . TFF came back to l.A. for a return engagement, after the tour was over, Roland added "Creep" to the setlist. 1st time I ever heard it, o'well. After Elemental, I knew Roland could carry on fronting TFF, I'm so glad I caught this show Live. My chips are placed on Roland.

I was at a Home Depot a couple weeks ago and heard the song "Woman in chains" and it made me remember how much I miss listening to the album sowing the seeds of love. I had lost it many years ago. I ordered it here as soon as I got home that day. I also ordered this album "Elemental" and am stunned how much it has grown on me. In fact I liked it so much I ordered "Tomcats screaming outside" along with all the out of print ones used as well. All of the albums Tears for fears have done fall so harmoniously with my personality. My personal favorite on Elemental is the last song, "goodnight song". It has such a powerful vibe to it, its like Roland is summing up his experience on stage. Having been a performing songwriter myself, his style and message has always influenced me as a musician.

It's still TFF but without Curt there. Something's just seems a little bit off not enough to knock this CD too much. As the writing is still as strong as ever and the vocals on various tracks are what keep me interested in Elemental...really enjoyed the last track "Goodnight Song" more than most of the others. But they are pretty good in there own right. Nice one.
February 2, 2008I am a Tears Fan. I bought this one when it came out. I know Curt was gone. The songs contained in this CD I personally feel were the best Roland has every written. Very introspective and full of energy. Each song a commentary, some of it very hard edged and agressive. Great guitar work. A very strong, and underrated piece of work. It would only have been better had Curt contributed to the vocals. This is my favorite of all the Tears material, and I love all their stuff.
November 29, 2007(true story) I worked at a bike shop where we listened to this record nearly everyday for an entire summer. we each got to pick a cd to play and Jack's pick was frequently Elemental by Tears for Fears. (You all should go buy it...last I checked it was only $0.05 on Amazon)
What I realized throughout this summer was that I was developing a very clear image as to what was going on visually during this record...and that was the full coreography of the CATS broadway musical. If you could go to the musical and listen to this album (you know kind of like dark side of the moon and wizard of Oz) I think you would be in for a treat.
Also, Jack was gay.
