LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY is the album that introduced Donna Summer to an American audience and includes the nearly 17-minute multi-orgasmic title song "Love to Love You Baby."

The lush orchestrations pulse and throb, along with Summer's breathless coo-ing, as they rise, fall and crash in a never-ending wave of ecstasy. That hypnotic frenzy is the only way to describe the title song "Love to Love You Baby." Although not an original concept, Jane Birkin's song "Je t'aime(Moi Non Plus)" was its predecessor, it would define Donna Summer as the sex goddess of the 70s and is worth the price of this cd alone. (BTW, Summer re-did Birkin's song and it's included on the "Thank God It's Friday" soundtrack, but has since gone out-of-print.)

As far as the rest of the songs its a mixed bag: "Whispering Waves" and "Full Of Emptiness" are slow-ballads with "WW" being the stand out, and "Pandora's Box" being a up-tempo rock song. "Need-A-Man Blues" is more of a dance/disco song but Summer uses her falsetto voice through out so you never really get a sense of what's to come. Actually Summer uses her falsetto voice on all the songs except "Pandora's Box."

Not bad for her U.S. debut, but never shows off Summer's vocal abilities like on later songs (i.e. "MacArthur Park" and "Last Dance"). Still enjoyable never-the-less.

If you're only buying for the long version of "Love To Love You," I would suggest The Ultimate Collection. As long as you don't mind spending the money, the version on "THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION" is remastered and it seems as though they brought the moaning sounds up a level.

There are many things to remember 1975 by. The Jeffersons,Jaws,Saturday Night Live,Welcome Back Kotter, the Silver Bullet Band, the birth of John & Yoko's son and of course,Donna Summer. But sadly, the good Lord took away Moe and Larry. Back in '75,with disco still in its infancy,Summer began to dominate the disco craze with her debut hit LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY. Summer had competition though, with the Bee Gees' JIVE TALKIN',another '75 hit. The other songs on this album are great. Possibly,Summer was nominated for a Best New Artist of 1975 Grammy. She had no Song Of The Year, for in '75 it was Neil Sedaka's co-penned LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER performed by The Captain & Tennille. November 7, 2007

I was there. Nothing like "Love to Love You, Baby" (extended) had ever been heard before. And nothing like it since. I don't know that it kicked off the "disco era" (that had been around for awhile), but this song kicked it into the stratosphere overnight. Miss Summer and Mr. Moroder nailed a time in the civilized world that's never been equaled. Remember? A ten-year window in human history where making love was celebrated: post-fem-lib and pre-AIDS. There were other Disco Divas. Gloria Gaynor? "I Will Survive?" Thelma Houston? "Don't Leave Me This Way?" So many.

The extended cut of "Love to Love You, Baby" is worth every penny. It's the "Mona Lisa" of Disco.

But check out "Full of Emptiness." Never heard it before now, 30 years later. Amazing. Deceptively simple (YOU figure out the beat count and let me know: this takes Burt Bacharach and Hal David's slightly off-kilter measures in "Anyone Who Had a Heart" to unprecedented pop levels), endlessly listenable.

Gotta have it. March 15, 2007

In 1975, Donna Summer released her second album entitled, LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY. This album is so much better than that of 1974's LADY OF THE NIGHT. I was really impressed with this album. It is an album that started Donna Summer's spotlight in the Disco era. Read on.

LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY
The first single from the album. This track, obviously being the album's title track, is simply amazing. Before the creation of this album, Donna Summer had only recorded this song, which ran to only 4:02 (four minutes, two seconds), where she then released it as a single. When the single was widely received all over the world, including the states, Casablanca Records (Donna Summer's record label) decided to make an album out of the single, where they took "Love To Love You Baby" and extended it into a Extended 12" format, where it runs to 16:51 (Sixteen minutes, fifty-one seconds). This is a classic song.

FULL OF EMPTINESS
Great.

NEED-A-MAN BLUES
Great.

WHISPERING WAVES
Awesome.

PANDORA'S BOX
Great.

FULL OF EMPTINESS (Reprise)
Great reprise.

I know, this is a very short album. But, the point is this short album is an awesome album, with an awesome full-length version of "Love To Love You Baby". Donna Summer fans should all have this in their collection. November 16, 2006
