For about a five year period from the late 80s into the early 90s, new-jack swing was all the rage in contemporary R&B. By the mid 90s it was starting to die out a little, but former Guy member and legendary NJS producer/songwriter Teddy Riley decided to put together a new group in 1994 to help keep the fire burning. Though he was ultimately unable to keep new-jack swing alive through to the end of the decade, he did create one of the genre's most enjoyable albums with this 1994 release. Highlights include the gorgeous hit ballad "Joy", the less PG-rated but equally enjoyable "Booti Call", and the ballad "Tonight's The Night" which was not a hit but has a wistful, dreamy background that makes it, along with its "let's get it on" sentiment, a top-quality slow jam. I love all songs on this album, even the intro! This is just a perfect blend of funk, 90's R&B, new jack swing, smooth ballads and hip hop beats. This is Teddy Riley at his best (except guy's "the future"). April 7, 2007

Blackstreet debut disc featured the hit Booti Call but it was the slow jam Before I Let You Go which pushed the group into the forefront. Dave Holister's on Before I Let You Go grab as soon as the first instrument is heard on the song. The other stand out slow cuts on the disc include Joy,Tonight's The Night and the sensual I Wanna Make Love. January 5, 2007

This cd is worth the purchase for "Joy" and "Before I Let U Go"
alone. Everytime I hear Joy, my skin tingles October 19, 2006
