I had this LP years ago. I never regretted getting rid of my LP collection but I did miss this album. As far as I'm concerned, the music is as fresh today as when it was released and not dated at all. It may be--actually, it is-- too bizarre for the mainstream but it's still one of my favorites. The sound engineering is top notch and Nina shines through in all her strange glory. Nina is a woman of many amazing voices. Buy it. If you don't like it, you don't like Nina. May 23, 2007

I am a person who is always looking for unconventional music and am open to any possibility. I got to hear from Nina Hagen some time ago, but unfortunately what I heard was her hindu chants record, which I really didn't like.

But recently, I was bored, looking for some avant garde music in the internet and by chance I found some Hagen's material again. What I heard was "Return of the mother", if well not really an "avant garde" record, it was pretty unconventional, but most of all, very intelligent music. Then I went through more Nina material and I found that "Nunsexmonkrock" was her most known album. Well I gotta say that is really surprising, since this record is anything but comercial music!

I guess this is still a somewhat raw, unformulaic early proposal by the german young punk queen, since we can hear very weird sequences mixed with otherwise regular punk-pop music of the early 80s. Whatever it is, this record is unbelievably witty! You can't say other thing that this is the work of a genious. Specilly the first track really impressed me. Not only because of the funny version of Jesus's miracles that serves as an introduction, but for the musical proposal, totally fresh, totally uncompromised, it seems that the record company just told her: "Well Nina, go to the studio and record whatever you want!" Some of the experimentation reaches a Diamanda Galas level, and believe me THAT IS EXPERIMENTATION!!

Smack jack is also incredible, a memorable song. I also loved Iki Maska. This is one of the few Nina readily available albums. Run and get it! Only requirement: be open minded. November 8, 2006

...well, her and Patti Smith. If you like aspects of Yoko Ono and Diamanda Galas, are a little into Bjork, and REALLY like Chicks on Speed, then this is the album for you. She manages to be innovative and shocking while having a sense of humour about it. Funny-- I came across this album while looking for "new" music. If you're sick of the whole classic rock genre (aka, the Rolling stones, the Beatles, Neil young) don't give up on the old stuff... Nina Hagen is an exemplary reason of why they call music timeless for a reason. September 27, 2006

In 1983, Born in XIXAX was the rawest most outrageous yet highly danceable tune in the L.A. New Wave/Punk club scene. And it still rocks like nothing else. Nina Hagen is a sublime goddess of the experimental. Not all of the music on the CD is as accessible as XIXAX, but it's highly educational and mind expanding. Go for it! October 16, 2005
