I love my CD the one song that I enjoy the most is Evergreen that was the song that I danced to for my wedding for our first dance. My husband has since passed away but that song just brings my closure.

Most people (including me) like Luther best when he's singing his own stuff, but if anyone can make a nearly-flawless covers album, it's him. Not every song on here is necessarily better than its first or most successful recording, but the most important thing to remember here is that even though he may not hit bullseye with all of these, the absolute last thing he does to any of them is ruin them.

Here's a Luther vs. (insert artist name here) breakdown of some of the songs:

Love The One You're With - pretty much on-par with Stephen Stills

Endless Love (featuring Mariah Carey) - not nearly as magical as the Lionel Richie/Diana Ross version, but almost as good and nearly as big a hit.

Hello - Doesn't sing it nearly as well as Lionel Richie, but gives it a softer, sweeter-sounding end treatment.

Always And Forever - Makes Heatwave seem lukewarm. Nuf said there. October 18, 2007

I like this song because in life you can always dream and there's no height that's unatainable if that's your desire. I love this song. November 5, 2006

There are often so many acts these days, trying to make cover records, and songs their own. Although many have successfully made good records recently like Rod Stewart with his Great American Songbook series, or Barry Manilow did with his Greatest Songs Of The Fifties record, most of them haven't been successful. That is not the case for the late Luther Vandross. Since his career began in the 80's, he had definitively made some of the most beautiful cover songs ever like The Closer I Get To You, and If This World Were Mine. But what he did to showcase his cover style, still remains definitive.

Luther Vandross's 1994 record, Songs, is a well-organized and detailed cover album that really showcases Luther and his soulful warmth with cover songs that he was not only able to make is own, he made them a ecstasy for a generation. The album and the songs range well from clasic soul ballads like Heatwave's Always & Forever, the soulful Going In Circles, to more current 80's and 90's covers that are just breathtaking like his rendiditons of Lionel Richie's Hello and Endless Love with Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston's 1990 hit All The Woman I Need. Luther and his voice were just so exviting here, that it still puts the feeling of covers albums today to shame.

It still remains sad that Luther died last year, but the music he had recorded still not only continues to shine, just remains as one of the most soultry artists of our time. Songs is truly a must buy for die hard Luther Vandross fans, as well as anybody who doesn't own a Luther album yet. This album still lets you know Luther Vandross will remain Always & Forever.

What can you say about LUTHER besides "smooth", incredible in any language. The world has lost a great artist, vocalist, doctor of love. No one can replace him, his style is unique, he can transport you, make you think, make you dig deep within and sometimes make you cry. Like all his previous cd's, its a must have. Good bye my songster, you will be missed. August 3, 2005
