About Michael Jackson - HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I
HIStory's 2 CDs (one hits, the other new) were Jackson's attempt to connect his glorious past to a dodgy present and--given it's commercial and artistic performance--cast a shadow on his future. Conceived as his formal coronation as the "King of Pop," HIStory's second disc instead presents Jackson as an epauletted, single-gloved Richard III. By turns paranoid, angry, bitter, sentimental, and, in one instance, possibly anti-Semitic, HIStory was less a collection of songs than a case history. A few tracks--mostly those produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--are sleek, modern pop/soul, but too much of HIStory has the overblown vacuousness of a musician who knows his time is past, but is unsure as to how to react to the situation. --Steven Mirkin Amazon.com

This product would have received 5 stars if it would have gotten here a little faster and the discs were not switched and it was a little "beat up" case wise. Other than that, I'm happy with the service, the product, and I would definitely use this seller again!

Some people like dogs, some people like rats, some people like snakes, some people like sharks....to each his/her own..I like Michael Jackson Period.
April 24, 2008while not my favourite michael album of all time this album is definitely one of the best albums over all of everyone. this cd really takes a punch back at everyone who's attacked or wronged him. the songs are excellent, particularly haunting and great is the song "Stranger In Moscow". and of course it includes the brilliant hit songs "Scream" (with his sister, Janet), "Earth Song" and "You Are Not Alone". this album is finished off perfectly with an uplifting cover of the song "Smile". For those of you who have heard the original and dislike it for its cheesy, old fashioned style, there is absolutely no comparison to this version. it has the most beautiful arrangment in the background along with the timing changes and the way michael sings it it becomes one of the best songs i have ever heard. there are no spectacular vocal gymnastics to aid this song, its just excellent because of the emotion it perfectly portrays. the perfect song to listen to when your having a bad day. over all, an absolutely fantastic cd!

HIStory is by all means a high quality album, but I deny it 5 stars because of a few stains. Michael changes from a family-friendly artist to a bitter, cursing, angry figure. The album has only one true love song, a great change from Michael's previous albums. The album also must be purchased with previously recorded material, which drives the price higher. The quality and sheer contagiousness of the tracks on HIStory makes it a notable album. The tracks do provide more insight into Michael's thinking and deal with real issues rather than issue the typical love-ballad feel. Even with it's minor drawbacks, HIStory is a must for the Michael Jackson fan.
