It's so funny how it works with sorting through your music collection sometimes. I have literally hundreds and hundreds of cd's and assorted music that I own, but have not listened too. " A Flor de Piel" is one of them. growing up Julio was always a famous name, but me being a kid in the 80's I saw him as "Mr.Latin cheese," or Senor Queso for those who prefer. This is like 15 years before the so called "Lain Invasion." As a reviewer previously mentioned, efore the Julio perma tan and Willy Nelson. Not that I dislike Willy dueting with Julio, but yeah it was pretty much cheese city after that. The music here is early Seventies, incredibly romantic Latin ballads. The Julio who sings it is yonug and at his absolute prime as far as belting out the true love bingers. He could do what R Kelly could do only better, take romance( without being a filth dog about it of course )and make it total erotic pleasure. The sappy 70's recording sound doesn't bother me so much, c'mon this was the SEVENTIES! The way to go for early Julio especially when looking at his influence on Latin music today. Everyone is in his debt. What any legend of Latin music from Shakira to Juan Luis Guerra to Celia( R.I.P.) owe to the master is gratitude. Viva la musica latina! March 17, 2008

You can still imagine the timid young soccer star wannabe who took up guitar while an injury healed. Wish you could all have experienced the excitement of discovering Julio when he was still a $4 ticket playing hotel ballrooms (he was already the biggest seller in Europe and Latin America)and the gratitude he showed audiences in those days.
