About Brand Nubian - One for All

Alongside acts such as Public Enemy and X-Clan, the Brand Nubian quartet (DJ Alamo and MCs Grand Puba, Sadat X, and Lord Jamar) helped introduce a whole new generation to Five-Percenter philosophies and conscious pride. Their 1990 debut was filled with the smooth production and syrupy flows that made the Nubian brand of Afrocentricity accessible and funky. Singles "All for One," "Slow Down," and "To the Right" highlight One for All, though some of the album's up-tempo efforts sound a little dated; "Wake Up," "Step to the Rear," and "Drop the Bomb" also shine. Alongside the wit and wisdom, though, the Nubian trio dropped some lyrical gaffes as well. Throughout One For All, there are plenty of unfortunate references to "hittin' skins," "cave-dwellin'" Caucasians, and hardcore homophobia. Despite its weaker moments, One for All is still one of the most impressive and definitive documents from hip-hop's "conscious" era. --Hua Hsu Amazon.com

When i first got this album to didnt really like it. But a few months later i played it and feel in love. Dope lyrics and amazing beats are all thats on here. Speaking on racial issues and changing who you are. Every track is worth playing. Feels so Good is a track about girls changing who they are and being fake, guys just want a real girl thats natural, Believe that. Ragtime, Drop the Bomb and Slow Down are amazing track. Listen to Slow Down and tell me you dont love it. If you like ATCQ or Dela i would recommend that you get this album soon. Very underrarted. May 17, 2008

Timeless classic by my favorite 5 percent brothers. sadat x, lord jamal, and grand puba's debut blew me away then and still supplies me with my hip hop fix antime I need it. Subject matter that was relevant then and still can apply to today's issues is another reason why this album will always matter in hip hop history. If you don't have this one your collection is suffering. May 23, 2007

The message may steer some people away, but you cannot deny the genius of their flow. These brothers could rap circles around most dudes.

Step To the Rear (Puba Shines)
One For All
Concerto in X Minor (Sadat's Tight Solo Spot)
Dance To My Ministry (Jamar's Tight Joint)
