rating: 5 Slept On Classic
I bought this when it came out in 95, and I was surprised how intensely it was slept on. Dope, dope beats, and Dre and Skoob come correct on the mic piece. There's not much else to say, if you love that grimy mid 90s hip hop sound, you gotta cop this. August 7, 2007

rating: 5 Slept on Hip-Hop Classic Album (Held it down.)
Das Efx's "Hold It Down" is one a those underground classics that should have sent a group into the stratosphere but didn't because it was under marketed and the times were changing. The West Coast was starting to take over Hip-Hop and Das Efx boom never happened. In the midst of all of that chaos came "Hold It Down". This album is a purist's wet dream. It is uncompromisingly Hip-Hop. Das Efx are like verbal grafitti writers. They got more flavor than Baskin n' Robbin's. Nearly every song is a beautifully produced neck snapper. Now, if you're from where I'm from then you remember the days when sitting in the car and snapping your neck to the beat while you bobbed your head was the thing to do. On some Redman ish. Well between "Dare Iz a Darkside" and "Hold It Down" there are no two finer examples of the best neck-snapping albums of the early nineties. With producers like Easy Mo Bee and Pete Rock it's just smash after smash. Of course what would an early nineties East Coast Hip-Hop album be without the Primo track? Check. DJ Scratch also contributes fire to this Timbs and Hood Era flag bearer. February 4, 2007

rating: 5 I CAN LISTEN TO THIS JOINT THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND STILL NOT GET TIRED OF IT
this defines diggy das the best because it is a mixture of the sounds of DEAD SERIOUS and STRAIGHT UP SEWACIDE. it is a bit long, but who cares, every track on here is enjoyable in its own lil way. to me, it was their last good one..............actually, now that i think about it, i agree with one of the reviwers, it was their best one all around. rating: 5 Ridiculously Slept on. 1995 Classic
Incase you don't know Das Efx" is made up of (2 Mc's) Skoob & Dray whom have both mastered two of the most original & influential styles ever to be heard by hiphop audiences, that would soon be admired and imitated over the years. When Das Efx made themselves known, with the critically acclaimed "dead serious" back in 1992, hiphop fans didn't know what hit 'em. " Rhyming with such amazing energy, enthusiasm and best of all the ability to compliment each other by exchanging lines back and forth, taking turns in the spotlight, Das Efx posess a style that is second to none. 3 Years after their debut, in the era of more rugged & rough-esque material, Das Efx step up to the plate and serve more than most heads could chew. The first thing to note about this album is that it is so dam consistent, there is not one filler on here! I can assure you! Consisting of 20 full tracks, with production from such legends as; DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Easy Mo Bee, Showbiz and more unknown but equally as outstanding producers; Solid Scheme, Kevin Geeda, Klark Kent & DJ Skratch any beat junkies will not go wanting with this album. It is amazing, how an album with such an outstanding lineup of producers didnt immediately get more recognition (but there you go). Now, the beats aren't the only superior factor of this album, the lyrics are just as good, with Skoob & Dray kickin' some of their best verses yet...staying consistent in all tracks making any pending doubts erased. Without a doubt, any fan of East Coast, Mid 90's, hardcore hiphop should have this in their collection already, as it is a genuine classic that still hasn't deserved the recognition it deserves. All I can say is if you are reading this, and you consider yourself to be a Hiphop fan, then check this album out as you may have found that special something that special album that you have been looking for. PEACE!!! (P.S. check out everything else by Das Efx, as it is all brilliant Early-Mid 90's material that needs to be recognised, except for the "How We Do" album as that is just an awful fall off in the new millenium)

Good album by Das EFX. I think that this album deserves 5/5 stars. The beats are real hiphop. Good vibes and gritty sounds. Good lyrics of course, the production is the best part probably. Real grimey hiphop beats with nice loops. Some of the tracks on here are STRAIGHT classics hands down. Definately pick this album up. My fav song is "Comin Thru". One of the illest beats EVER! Check this cd out no doubt, you wont be dissapointed.
