I bought this album when it came out in vinyl. I still listen to it often and love every cut on it. The lyrics, the rhythms, the soul of this album are what I love about it. Anyone who listens to all of the artistic analysis by people who think they are writing for Rolling Stone Magazine here and does not but this album is making a big mistake. Want to visit, or re-visit, some of the essence of the early 70's? Buy "Down the Road" and get on down! You won't be sorry. October 13, 2008

rating: 4 QuoteI really like this albumQuote
Clearly, Stills fans are quite divided on this one, I am of the opinion that this is indeed a fine record. Seems to me that the best thing to do is listen to it first, then decide if it is something you need to own. I really dig it, and it gets a fair amount of airplay around the house as my gf digs it, too. You may need to adjust your expectations a bit, but this is certainly better than some of the dreck that came out of the CSN camp in the 80's & 90's, crank it up and enjoy!! Kev August 9, 2008

I found this album to be great. I just heard Steven Stills in Concert and had to get this album. Reminds me how much I enjoyed his music in my younger years! October 21, 2007

rating: 4 QuoteDon't overlook . . .Quote
. . . this terrific record just because its predecessor ("Manassas") is great. DTR may be "more of the same," but that's not necessarily a bad thing when "the same" means well-written songs played with energy and verve by skilled musicians. This album may not have the revelatory quality of the first one, but it's still a highly-rewarding listen and well worth hearing. July 19, 2007

This is an excellent album! It was a modest hit in the US when it was released in 1973 (reaching number 26 on the Billboard album chart) and produced a minor hit single "Isn't It About Time" (which peaked at 56 on the Billboard singles chart). Both the album and song should have been bigger hits! April 9, 2007
