About Blade Runner
For years, the soundtrack to
Blade Runner held legendary status among fans of Greek synthesist Vangelis. Except for a few cuts on the
Themes compilation, it had never been released on vinyl or CD, although there was an orchestral version of the score. But in 1994, 22 years after Vangelis composed the dark, edgy soundtrack to director Ridley Scott's archetypal science fiction thriller, the music of
Blade Runner came out in all its cybernoir glory.
Vangelis couched his electrosymphonic score in percussive rhythms and shadowed timbres. Effectively interpolating dialogue from the film, the CD moves from the threatening tension of "Blush Response" to the ethereal wordless vocal of Mary Hopkin over a water-drop synthesizer sequence on "Rachel's Song." A few tracks, notably "Love Theme" with Dick Morrisey's smarmy saxophone solo, drip with Hollywood sentimentality, but Vangelis quickly wipes that away with the hyperdrive of "Blade Runner (End Titles)." --John Diliberto Amazon.com

If you have seen the movie, you already know. This is a must have. Vangelis wraps it up into a fine package with additional tracks that don't see the light of the film, but fit perfectly into the soundtrack. Buy it.

I'm not a great fan of movie scores, but this is an exception. Vangelis' style is perfectly suited to the movie, but the score is very listenable on its own, with cuts of movie dialogue between a few pieces, giving the whole thing unity. Most of the music is deep and well written, unlike that of other artists filed under "new age" in the record store, and tracks like "One More Kiss Dear" -- an homage to music of the 30s and 40s -- show variety of style. It is worth owning.

This is an awesome soundtrack adaptation (Vengelis took some artistic liberty by inserting some sounds from the actual movie, but its great) for Blade Runner, listen to this and the whole movie will come washing back over you. Definately get this CD and not the 25th Anniversary (its a waste for the money..I have both).
Vangelis at his best.
January 11, 2008This soundtrack is so awesome to listen to over again. Vangelis is at his best here and none of his other CD's have caught my attention as much.
November 30, 2007A collage of dark and light with as much depth as the movie itself. Vangelis fans alike, this is a must have, a classic.
