User Reviews
Average user review:I bought this album when I was younger and really began to appreciate the humor in their rap. It wasn't gansgta and hard just up tight and lickity split. I remember playing this album in a store for demo'ing speakers I wanted to buy so I plugged this album in the player and it sounded real nice and out I went with a pair of 12-inch technic speakers. Real Riggity Rap
I read all of the other reviews and only about 2 briefly mention that das efx were the first ones to really explore the tv generation. Their rhymes included references to the flintstones, thundercats, etc. At a time where gangster rap was kickin' they (were the first to) relate to the everyday cartoon-watchin', rhyme infatuated kid. The beats were kool and style was unique for the time (albeit a little bite off earlier hip hop legends). Even today, "underground" (loosely used) rappers still try to relate the everyday tv-watchin', video-game-playin' person to the hip hop genre AND das efx were the first ones to do so... and they did it with SIGGITY STYLE and originality that was never done at that level.
In addition, they also brought a light-heartedness to the genre that many try and replicate to this day. The album was a huge influence at its time AND a huge influence now. November 27, 2007
It's Diggity Das EFX (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars)
Dang, I remember back in the early 90's when I was just a kid when the radio used to blast "Mic Checka" by Das EFX. That single reached #1 on the Billboard back in '92. Listening to Das EFX some 15 years later, I notice the origonal style "iggity", and how everyone jocked it. But Drayz and Scoob dropped the style first, and the "iggity" type rhymes could be found all over this album.
"Mic Checka" was a dope song as the lead off song. Another song that stood out was "They Want EFX" with it's bumping beat, and head jerking rhymes. You also have more bumping tracks like "Looseys" which is about girls, and "If Only" as well. I would say the best track would be the last track "Straight Out The Sewer" as both Drayz and Skoob both kick dope verses.
As for anything bad. I personally thought the "iggity" style was a little repetative. I can't be mad though, because that was Das' style and it was completely origonal, and had everyone bitting it. Nowadays if you'll get laughed at for using that style like Das EFX did. But back in '91, rap was fun and origonal, so it's all cool.
Dead Serious is almost a classic in my opinion. With production by Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith of EPMD, you can expect a lot of great beats on here, as it sort of reminds me of Redman's Whut? Thee Album. 10 tracks deep with very little flaws, there is not much to ask for. Also this album is edited (a lot of early 90's rap never came with parantal advisory stickers), so expect a couple of edits in a few songs. They would follow up in '93 with Straight Up Sewaside. If you're a fan of origonal 90's rap, I recommend you check this out. Peace!

GOTTA GIVE THEM PROPS FOR INSPIRING SHARKS LIKE BONE DID LATER ON
look here, i have heard so many different views about diggy das that it is not even funny. now yes, when you hear it now, it does sound a bit corny, but if it sounds like this, then a lil corny with butter sounds pretty doggone good to me. i remember when i first heard this in alabama, i was like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT IS THIS???!!!??? then it came to where i am from, and instantaneously it was like BAM! all over the place. if you like head noddahs, then this joint will satisfy. if you like overrated garble like nelly, then get nelly and get away from me please...................GIMMIE MY DAS!!!!! 4.5 stars!!!
The perfect party LP. Funky raps with a high influence on wordplay to come. A LOT of MC's used their style but no one does it like they do. If you're lookin for a great old school feel w/not such a serious approach, look no further. September 11, 2006
