About Seals & Crofts - Seals & Crofts - Greatest Hits

Although the prime exponents of the '70s California soft rock style were album artists such as America, Bread, and Poco, Seals and Crofts--essentially an AM singles band--have aged even better. The key is in their tight songwriting. "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl," and the rest of the hits display an odd, but apt, sense of arrangement and instrumentation--and enough of a rock & roll sensibility to keep their sound from slumping into period piece laid-backism. Case in point: The duo's first band was the Champs, noted for the fake-Latin crudhopper "Tequila." Even so, it's not grit, but ace songcraft that captures the prize here. All of the ace songs are included. --Gavin McNett Amazon.com

When I bought this , it was for "Summer Breeze", "Diamond Girl" and "We May Never Pass This Way Again" because these songs brought back a lot of good memories of my early to mid teen years. Upon several listens I became more and more attached to some of the songs I was unfamiliar with when I got this one."King of Nothing", "East of Ginger Trees", "Castles In the Sand" and "When I Meet Them" have since become tunes I look forward to hearing when I pop this disc in. A solid four and a half stars from me. May 15, 2008

I had this Greatest Hits album on cassette back when it was first released, and it was played to death. Back then, I was in high school, and "Summer Breeze" was our driving-to-the-beach anthem. The whole album is solid sing along songs, and each one gives you a warm, content feeling. Positive, uplifting, spiritual songs to hum along with... or sing along with if you think you can compete with the incredible vocals!
Put this cd in your player, get yourself something cold to drink, put your feet up and close your eyes. Relax and soak up the sound. March 26, 2008

August 6, 2007

It's true that Seals & Crofts were an underrated band that never got the proper attention they deserved. By "proper" I mean, as another reviewer mentions, avoiding the easy listening tag. There was SO much more to Seals & Crofts than just typical easy listening music.

They were sort of like a blend between Cat Stevens in the vocal department and spiritual side, and Simon and Garfunkel's peaceful atmospheric experiments. For some reason, the music of Seals & Crofts always reminded me of a place faraway, such as another planet and another life. It's hard to explain why I get these feelings from their music, because they aren't a space rock band like Pink Floyd or Rush.

Another feeling this band creates is the one of me growing up in Amish country here in the southern parts of Pennsylvania. Whenever I hear this music, I think about how peaceful the Amish are, and how friendly the music is. A fascination with the outdoors also helps me appreciate the music even more.

This Greatest Hits collection gathers a bunch of their best tunes and puts them on one disc. I'm not kidding- every single song here is a winner. I wonder whatever happened to these guys? I hope we see them again. I also hope some of their albums that were never released on CD will be released soon, such as the Takin' It Easy album. I LOVE that album and wish it was available on a disc. April 27, 2007
