The version of Memories of Green on this album is just stunning and achingly beautiful. It is worth buying this album just to get this adaptataion of Memories of Green. That's precicely why I bought it. It's much better than the original Memories of Green.
April 8, 2008 | | Music more memorable than movie.
I have seen "Blade Runner" only two time. The first time was on TV about 15 years ago, it impressed me at the time. I ran across this version of the soundtrack about a year ago on cassette no less, and really enjoyed the mood it creates. I mentioned to a co-worker how much I enjoyed the music from the movie, and he stated he had another official version of the soundtrack. So, I listened to his version, and I must say I was really disappointed with that version. The voice overs are very distracting and take away from the beauty of the music. Two months ago I went to see the directors cut of the movie, unfortunately the movie did not grab me as much as the first time I saw it, though still an enjoyable film. The music during the film also didn't particulary grab my attention. So, I guess it's just a matter of taste. I also have the soundtrack to "Alexander" that Vangelis did a few years ago. I recommend the music and movie, though I seem to be the only one who does.
March 18, 2008The version of "Memories Of Green" that appears here is far better than the original later released. It's worth it alone in buying the CD. The overall quality and playing of the music is excellent. I also have the official OST and its also fine in its own way.
January 8, 2008 | | "Doesn't have the narration, sounds different than original vinyl, but good"
To clarify, since a lot of people don't seem to like this...I think it sounds considerably different than my original LP from way back when. But I think it actually sounds a little better...and I like the fact that there aren't people talking (narration) because I think it better represents the original movie. But I guess this is the same as why people don't like the different endings, whether any one in particular was the actual intended ending. But the original book is different from what the movie turned out to be, so I imagine it will change even more (music and movies) through the evolution of the generations, since this is a classic. Maybe we should appreciate all versions of the CDs.
December 9, 2007 | | Orchestra adaption plays out much better than original
This is far better than the Vangelis soundtrack. Even the Vangelis CD has idiotic movie voice overs inserted into the music, giving it an aged and inadequate "artsy" quality, taking away from any aesthetic it could offer.
Within the orchestra version, I originally felt a little dissapointed by what appeared to be a limitation in the available tracks, however it turns out that the reprised version choose to be an adequate choice. Though, I do admit to wanting some additional music that clearly was omitted, though it is acceptable given what I perceive of limitations in Vangelis CD.
The sound quality has a very high sample rate, and with a high end sound system, it sounds extraordinary! Many tracks are FAR better produced, surpassing Vangelis, in that sense. If only they included some missing tracks, I would rate it 6 out of 5.
