| | Sure It's not his best, but it is a really fun album! | |
A lot of people seem to take this one too seriously. No, it's not like all of his others, but Kill Uncle is far from a bad release. All the songs except for "Asian Rut," "Found Found Found," and "The Harsh Truth of the Camera Eye," are all gems. The other three are still listenable, just slightly weaker. If you're just starting a Morrissey collection though, I'd probably save this one and Southpaw Grammar for last.
July 16, 2008I have all of The Smiths and solo-Morrissey's albums. This album is my personal favorite. Most of the songs I couldn't live without - Mute Witness, Sing Your Life, King Leer, there isn't a bad song on the disk. This album is the polar opposite of Your Arsenal, which means it's much more laid back. Some of his best work is here, check it out.
June 27, 2008 | | Despite its reputation, a pretty good album.... | |
This is a good CD, though not great one. It has a lackluster production, like it's deliberately unfinished. It's a shame, as it has some great (and I mean great) Morrissey songs on it. Lyrically, he's still as awesome as ever. Asian Rut has a brilliantly sad, operatic tone to it. My favorite song has to be Driving Your Girlfriend Home with its great line "how did I end up so deeply involved in the very existence I planned on avoiding?". That's another brilliant Morrissey lyric. The Harsh Truth of the Camera Eye is a great song, but it's hindered by the lax production. I'm the End of the Family Line is very good, and the quieter production actually helps it. The song There's a Place in Hell for me and my Friends has another great Morrissey title, and the song is a great one too. If your a Morrissey fan, you need to get this one. If you're just a casual fan, you should download a few of the songs.
May 11, 2008This is one of Moz' best albums IMHO. I see that people complain about the sound, but I have no problem with it. I am also not a soundboard tech so take it for what it is worth. This album has some of the sharpest lyrics of his career, skewering stupid boyfriends, boorish conversationalists, media-types, and, of course, himself and his own pretentious. His voice is wonderful as usual, his delivery is on target. The music is such that one could often tap one's toe if one desired. I particularly like the slinky bass on "Found Found Found". If you are a sensitive soul, battered by life, and are looking for some music to get you through the tough times, you need to buy all of Moz' early albums, including "Viva Hate", "Your Arsenal", "Vauxhall and I", "Bona Drag", and of course "Kill Uncle". As a dreary young lad, I would often find myself thinking of one person or another who had done me wrong while singing along with Moz, spitting venom and feeling quite the better for it afterwards. I can't imagine how many others had Morrissey for their own personal psychoanalyst in just the same way. A very good album so buy it.
December 23, 2007This could have benefited from a better production but there's some great songs in here like found found fuond...probably his weakest solo effort but not aerage. buy it last after having bought all the others.
