| It's Everything Everyone Says It Is |
I always listen to this collection with bittersweet enjoyment. I was a just kid when Buddy was popular, but I can remember my friends and I snapping our fingers and wiggling our rear ends as we sang along and attempted to dance to these tunes. I can remember my parents putting the records on the hi-fi and dancing to "True Love Ways" in our living room, and I remember that February day 1959 when it was announced on the news that Buddy, Ritchie, and the Big Bopper were no more. I remember how sick I felt, and although I wish it weren't so, I can get sad today when I listen to these songs and think about Clear Lake, Iowa and the brilliant music that came to an end that day.
But, sadness aside, it's all the more reason to listen to this great collection. What on earth would music have been like without Buddy Holly? Several other reviewers have said it before me, but let me say it again, Elvis notwithstanding, Buddy Holly WAS AND IS the King of Rock and Roll. Listen, really listen to his music and you will see why... January 21, 2008
