The album still packs a punch, especially the first cut, which details the many ways MAerica has failed to live up to its promises. Unfortunately, little has changed, with the current administration adding to our woes!
I was reminded of this great album after watching "USA Vs. John Lennon". September 29, 2008

Boy does this CD ring true over 30 years after its initial release. I was given the album as a present back when it first came out and POW - right between the ears and eyes! What a sound. And then listening to Monster/Suicide/America - holy crap! And now, over 30 years later - the song still is fresh - even more so considering what has transpired over the last 7+ years in this country. Political? You bet your butt it is. But it doesn't mean that it isn't true or relevant.

If you haven't heard of Steppenwolf before - here you go - jump in with both feet. If you have been a fan and don't have this in your collection - get it now. May 26, 2008

This is one of Jonh Kays' best works. Politically motivated, the war was going no where and John was reaching out. He knew where this was going and the album was a testement to that. Strong performance, highly recommended!

Steppenwolf were always an exceptional band when it came to mixing extremely emotional vocal melodies with extremely emotional guitar playing. To make the experience even better, they could even rock out when they wanted to. A highly talented band if there ever was one.

The "Monster/Suicide/America" track is really the best thing on the Monster album. Talk about devastatingly brilliant, in terms of emotions and rock energy. The part that goes "America, where are you now, don't you care about your sons and daughters" almost brings me to tears. It's hard to believe a band capable of so much emotion isn't remembered today as much as they should be.

The rest of the tracks on the album are just as excellent. An album well worth owning. Everything Steppenwolf did is worth owning. If there was ever a band where their hit songs were certainly NOT their best songs, it's Steppenwolf. Everything on this album beats the heck out of "Born to be Wild". September 19, 2007

This largely-overlooked monsterpiece from 1969 has one especially-intriguing track, "From Here To There Eventually". In it I can hear a condensed mini-Rock Opera which sounds like a pre-cursor to Pink Floyd's 1973 masterwork "Dark Side Of The Moon". The haunting end passage contains a chillingly-beautiful female vocal reminiscent of "The Great Gig In The Sky", there are synthesized sounds like the droning of a downward-spiraling airplane, and an overall flavor which somehow encapsulates the entire feel of the Floyd gem. Add this to your collection and bask in some great Rock. July 8, 2007
