This CD features two Jan & Dean albums on one CD.

The Little Old Lady From Pasadena was released in late 1964. It of course features the smash hit title song, plus the other classic singles "Sidewalk Surfin'" and "The Anaheim, Azusa & Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Association". There are a number of other good songs like "Horace, The Swingin' School Bus Driver", "Summer Means Fun" and the hilarious "One-Piece Topless Bathing Suit". There are two instrumentals, "Old Ladies Seldom Power Shift" and "Skateboarding Part 2" ("Skateboarding Part 1" was on the Ride the Wild Surf album). "It's As Easy As 1,2,3" was originally released as a single by Jan's girlfriend, Jill Gibson, although it's actually a Jill & Jan duet. "Move Out Little Mustang" is not actually by Jan & Dean, it's by their backup singers, The Fantastic Baggys and was released as a single under the name "The Rally Packs". A bonus track is added to the CD, "Your Heart Has Changed It's Mind", which was the b-side of the 1962 single "Tennessee". This is a very good album and is one of Jan & Dean's best.

Filet of Soul was released in early 1966. It was released shortly after Jan was in the tragic auto accident that left him in a coma. About half of the album is live recordings that were left off of the Command Performances/Live in Person album. The rest of it studio recordings, some of which had appeared on previous albums. Most of the songs are pretty poor versions of other performers' songs, including three Beatles' songs. The whole thing has a very slapped together feel to it, and it's not a very good album.

Averaging out the two albums, I give the CD three stars. March 6, 2007

The "Little Old Lady From Pasedena" was one of Jan & Dean's best selling albums which includes the big hit "Little Old Lady..."
along with a couple of minor hits. Great Hot Rod/Surf Style songs! Typical Jan & Dean sound! The other album LP which is re-issued here is "Filet of Soul". It's an album that Liberty records released shortly after Jan was paralyzed in an accident.
It's includes live recordings and studio recordings that were previously unreleased at the time. It's a good album! By the way, you may want to listen to "Little Old Lady" once again, for the first time, and think about this. Jan is singing lead, and the "Fantastic Baggies" are singing the backround vocals, including the high falsetto parts. Dean's voice isn't really heard on the record at all. November 9, 2001
