About The 5th Dimension - The 5th Dimension - Greatest Hits on Earth

In their late '60s/early '70s heyday, the Fifth Dimension's lush, airy sound embodied a glossy showbiz vibe that couldn't have been more at odds with the values of the hip, rock underground. But the best of the sexually integrated vocal quintet's hits still sound swell on the radio. This 11-song collection doesn't quite do justice to the group's catalogue, omitting some key hits, but it does include such fluffy confections as "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," "Up, Up and Away," Wedding Bell Blues," "Stoned Soul Picnic," and "(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep At All." As such, it provides a good introduction to the group's smoothly soaring sound. --Scott Schinder Amazon.com

All of my favorite hits on one CD. Thoughts of good times, old romances,
and a simpler, carefree life were all brought when listening to the 5th
Dimension.

One of my favorites from the early 70's when mixed vocal groups were the thing. This one had it all. The soul of Billy Davis. The silkiness of Marilyn McCoo Davis. And the harmonies of the whole group. A disc you can put on and just let it play. February 22, 2008

Nothing, absolutely nothing beats old school music. When you hear songs like "Stone Soul Picnic" and "Wedding Bell Blues", it just puts you in the mood to cook up some good ole food and invite some friends over for an old school good time. Yes, scurry on down.... July 27, 2007

In the late 1960's, 5 musicians (Billy Davis, Jr., Florence LaRue, Marilyn McCoo, Lamonte McLemore, and Ron Townson) came together and formed a singing group with a unique sound, the Fifth Dimension. They had a string of hits, which were played on all the AM top-40 radio programs of the day.

At their peak, they were one of the most popular groups in the US. Marilyn McCoo, who helped start the group, ultimately became the lead singer and the most recognized vocalist in the group. Her voice is as good as it gets, and her work stands up today as a testimony to her beautiful renditions and sound. In the early 1970's the group suffered a great blow when Marilyn McCoo and Billy David Jr. broke away and started solo careers of their own. This effectively ended the Fifth Dimension.

This album has the best of their hits, the ones you will recognize and remember. There are some songs missing from this album, so it is not the "complete" Fifth Dimension collection, which is available elsewhere. However, if you desire just one album that best reflects the sound of the Fifth Dimension, this is the one to buy.

I never tire of their unique blend of harmony and soul. I wish today's musician's would take a lesson from the Fifth Dimension and learn the art of harmony.
