Along with it's Companion CD Set: "Jerry Garcia Band" this CD is the Best Example of 90's era Live Jerry. This is Jerry, Healthy, Happy and leading a Fine Band at the Warfield Theater, San Francisco in 1990. A live: "Cats Under the Stars" would have been worth the Cover Charge, but adding: "Like a Road","Gomorrah","Tears of Rage" and "Think" really makes this Release something special!

Jerry, is joined by John Kahn on Bass Guitar (Thanks for bringing him up in this Mix) David Kemper on drums (Both David & John played with The Acoustic Garcia Band as well) Jackie LaBranch & Gloria Jones: Vocals and Melvin Seals on Keyboards. This Band is Soulful on the Ballads, and Rocks like a Beast on the Upbeat Tunes.

There are Comments regarding the Sound Quality. As an 80's Tape-Trader that has heard his share of Audience Cassettes, this CD sounds really warm, and that isn't easy to achieve in this Digital Age. With Ten Songs and 77 Minutes of this Great Music, this is Essential Jerrymusic. Get this one whilst it's Still Available. September 19, 2007

I don't understand how people get off saying that this album is made of bad cuts and sounds like it was recorded in the crowd. Nothing could be farther from the truth, this is sonically better then anything i've ever heard from the dead, altho i love live recordings of the dead. this is something different, a hard rocking little bit of the Jerry Garcia Band. Lots of improvisation, but in a more structured and straight ahead rock sort of way then the usual dead stuff. I can't reccomend this album enough, its grrrrrrrreat!

Jerry Garcia was certainly a rare treat to the musical world, and this CD is just a small, yet outstanding, glimpse into that world. His guitar solo on Gomorrah is achingly beautiful and in my honest opinion make the purchasing of the CD worthwhile. That's What Love Will Make You Do showcases Jerry's upbeat side and put's a smile on my face every time, plus it is just some awesome jamming! And Like A Road will give you chills. Every song on here is great, with Jerry's guitar sounding more like an angelic voice than a music instrument, as usual.

Do yourself a favor. Pick up this CD and it will help you envision a world where the musical background of a generation is not dictated by American Idol. God bless you, Jerry! January 15, 2004

Frankly, I was expecting a higher recording quality in the HDCD format. Sounds look it was recorded from the audience, almost bootleg. If your a hardcore fan, I would be disappointed. November 12, 2001

I'm very surprised at all the glowing reviews given to this release. The 1991 Jerry Garcia Band double CD is a classic but this release falls far short of my expectations. Beginners would be wise to start with something else. Of all the wonderful recordings that are available, it sounds as if these selections were made from "off" nights. Vocally, Garcia sounds ragged. Even his guitar playing wasn't tops on these performances. This CD rarely finds its way into my stereo and has (thus far) prevented me from taking the risk of purchasing the third installment, "Shining Star." GDM will have to do much better than this...which shouldn't be too hard to do. October 26, 2001
