More edited rap!!!

Just like volume one in what was almost a great series, this volume doesn't include all the 12" versions of these classics-and it even suffers from censorship. Had it included the full length, uncensored versions of Roxanne and the Real Roxanne, it would have been more than worth it. As is, it leaves you wanting something more. Track times:

If you knew what Biggie Smalls was talking about when he rapped this title line in "JUICY," then this is for you.

This is a sample of rap in it's funny story-party era around 1983-85 or so. These jams rocked the crowd in those days. Comedy rap is well represented here with the legendary ROXANNE ROXANNE by UTFO and "Can You Feel It?" by the Fat Boys (sound effects included). This is where they make up a dance called the alazubamba. And of course the all time rap laff riot RAPPIN DUKE by Shawn Brown. Here, Brown does a SCREAMINGLY funny rap based on cowboy star John "Duke" Wayne's speaking style that will cause you to drop your jaws in disbelief when you first hear it, but will make you roll and bang the floor with hysterics upon subsequent listenings. (Wayyy down a-pon the swau-neee river....).

For historical purposes, this also includes GENIUS RAP by Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde (featuring future would-be record mogul Andre Herell), where they do a typical 1981 style boasting rap over the Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" beat. Not bad at all, though.I give it four stars because it includes Grandmaster Flash's downhill slide with the horrible SCORPIO with disgusting computer banging and screamingly annoying electro-synthesized shouted "lyrics". PEE-OOHHH! But as a whole, it's a good sample of mid-80s party rockers and pre-gangster rap. August 9, 2005
