rating: 4 QuoteA very good CDQuote
This wonderful CD contains some 50 pieces of music, totaling more than 75 minutes, from the movies House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows. The music itself is instrumental in nature, and maintains a uniformly dark mood. Also, the paperwork that comes with the CD is a wonderful little booklet with information on the original television show, the two movies (including two trivia sections), the composer, Lyndhurst mansion (used as Collinswood in the movies), and the music of Dark Shadows in general.

So, if you are also a fan of the 1960s & 70s Dark Shadows phenomenon, then I can guarantee that you will like this CD. If you are looking for dark mood music, then I would also recommend this CD to you. It is a very good CD. June 7, 2003

As it's already been pointed out, this is especially good if you don't have all the other 4 TV soundtracks of Dark Shadows (which are really just 60's sound-effects and music cues), but still favorable if you do. Personally, I think that the music on the movies sounds better than what was played on the TV show, because the movies had a considerably higher budget allowing a better music quality.

It's a long CD, best for background music but also great for fans, even the most casual of fans, because of the eerie themes heard within (most prominent on the Night of Dark Shadows tracks). Although the movies are said to be average or below average, as a fan of the series I like them, and I like the music also. There are two supplemental bonus tracks offered, one only heard briefly and the other not heard at all, but based on the main theme. I tend to overlook them because I can see why they weren't used in the movies ...

One complaint I can think of - this was either compiled in a hurry or without enough thought, because I don't know why they would add an 8 second track ("Willie's Concern") instead of putting it at the end of another track, and I also noticed that they forgot some music from the end of House of Dark Shadows (when Jeff Clark is looking for Barnabas at the abandoned mansion).

Altogether, I'd say this is an ideal CD for Dark Shadows fans, and I recommend this above the other CDs, but it's shouldn't be exclusively for fans; the music is good for people who like instrumental music. January 5, 2000

If you don't have the four soundtrack albums of music from the Dark Shadows TV show then you need this CD! If you Do have those four albums you probably don't Need this CD but it would be nice to have. It contains very good recordings of most of the DS music (although all the song titles have been changed so it's often hard to tell what the original song title was), as well as some unusual pieces recorded just for the films (a nice, jazzy version of I'm Gonna Dance For You, for instance). Also included is a Very nice 28-page booklet containing many images and much information about the production of the two films. With over 75 minutes of excellent DS music, I think this CD is Well worth the price! March 16, 1999
