I bought this LP back when it first came out in '72 and was truly amazed. This album (now in CD form) is still a classic for the ages.
December 14, 2008 | | One of the best rock CD's - PERIOD!! | |
I bought this album when it was first released and I still listen to it often. It is one of those type albums you just don't get tired of listening to (you know what I mean). I am baffled on why this album never got much airplay on the radio. I bet if a recording studio would 're-release' this album it would be a big hit even today. But then again, who would want to release an album for which the band no longer exists. If you are wondering whether or not to buy this CD, don't worry, you will not regret it!!! Actually, if I could afford it, I would buy it for you.
November 27, 2008This is truly a great recording and defines LP albums. The tracks blend together seamlessly and each one is as good as the others. My only complaint is that the album could have been about 20 minutes longer, at appoximately 35 minutes, it leaves you wanting more. I came across this recording on Amazon while looking for something else. I can't believe I have never heard before!...Even with the advent of satellite radio. Highly under-rated and under-played. If you enjoy classic rock, this is a "must have" addition to your collection.

Rod Evans of DEEP PURPLE, Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt and Lee Dorman of IRON BUTTERFLY, and JOHNNY WINTER's drummer, Bobby Caldwell, comprise this early proto-metal "supergroup." This '72 S/T album simply rocks. Great, riff-oriented songs. Awesome disc. Occasionally dated, however, due to some hippy-esque sounds.
A very solid 5 star CD.
October 13, 2008WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID ABOUT THIS ALBUM THAT HASN'T ALREADY BEEN SAID IN THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS? IF YOU'RE INTO HARDROCK/METAL/PROGRESSIVE MUSIC AND YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THIS ALBUM THEN YOU MUST HAVE BEEN LIVING IN A CAVE FOR THE PAST 35 YEARS. I SAW THESE GUYS IN 1972 WITH TRAPEZE AND WHITE WITCH AND WAS BLOWN AWAY...WHAT A GREAT SHOW.WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE RECORD THE NEXT DAY AND IT'S BEEN A REGULAR ON MY PLAYLIST EVER SINCE.HOW TO DESCRIBE THIS MUSIC?VERY GROOVE ORIENTED,"TRIPPY",GUITAR ORIENTED HARD ROCK.FOR ME THE ENTIRE ALBUM PLAYS AS ONE LONG SONG...THE TUNES ARE SEQUENCED IN SUCH A AWAY AS THEY TEND TO MELD INTO ONE ANOTHER.GREAT TIME CHANGES AND INNOVATIVE GUITAR PLAYING WITH A ROCK SOLID RHYTHM SECTION. BEING RELEASED ON CD WAS A BOON FOR FANS OF THIS RECORD AS IT CAN NOW BE PLAYED IN ITS ENTIRETY WITHOUT INTERRUPTION.A SOMEWHAT SURPRISING EFFORT FROM ALL THE PLAYERS ON THIS RECORD AS THEIR PREVIOUS WORK WAS UNLIKE ANYTHING ON THIS RECORD...2 GUYS FROM IRON BUTTERFLY,THE ORIGINAL VOCALIST OF DEEP PURPLE,AND JOHNNY WINTER'S DRUMMER MADE UP THE BAND.HIGH HOPES FOR THE FOLLOWUP BUT ALAS IT WAS NOT TO BE..."SUFFICIENTLY BREATHLESS" WAS A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT FOR ME AND 1977'S "DAWN EXPLOSION" WAS A PRETTY MIDDLE OF THE ROAD HARD ROCK ALBUM.BUT THEN HOW CAN YOU MEET OR EXCEED A CLASSIC? SURPRISINGLY SOME PROFESSIONAL CRITICS[MARTIN POPOFF FOR ONE]HAVE PANNED THIS ALBUM WHICH I CAN'T BELIEVE.GO FIGURE.WELL THAT'S ABOUT IT...
