About Underworld - Born Slippy

Rave dance parties had been a phenomenon in London and its rural satellites for years before this song came along, but "Born Slippy" took a growing fad and turned it into a genuine movement. Its inclusion on the Trainspotting soundtrack only broadened its influence, casting an even wider net and bringing peripheral followers of electronic music into the fold. The song makes use of an ingenious vocal, fuzzy and loose, looping phrases of cadence around irresistible BPMs that could inspire the most bashful wallflower to raid the dance floor. The song's influence is such that some have claimed it to be the unassailable pinnacle of electronica. While such statements are debatable, it's instructional to realize that the genre concept "electronica" only congealed when "Born Slippy" astronomically expanded the all-around influence of electronic music. In effect, it's already a classic. --Matthew Cooke Amazon.com essential recording

This is one of the best singles of the 90's. All the remixes are top notch and excellent!! If you've seen Trainspotting then you probably heard the 2 versions in the film. It has been rereleased recently but these remixes are still the best ones. October 5, 2005

Being a raver I was naturally drawn to "Born Slippy". It is quite simply a rave ANTHEM. It is THE if not one of the most recognized electronic songs. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why it's an instant favorite maybe it's just the speed and energy of it all. It's a rush, a very confident and honest rush.

So what exactly is he saying?? Is it just a stream of consciousness?? To me it sounds like Karl Hyde is singing of a boy that dresses in drag who he happens to like. Whatever it is about it is my anthem of choice. January 7, 2004
