Average user review:| Rollicking good time score to the rollicking good time 'switch your brain off' movie! |
My girlfriend of the time was obsessed by this film and Kevin Costner in general. There, I just had to get that out of my system! Now, onto the review...
As guilty pleasures go this soundtrack is hard to beat. This film score goes to the heart of the matter - presenting the listener with a fun and stirring bunch of themes perfect for the fast paced action of the film and also perfect for a lively home listen. With only 8 orchestral tracks your only get the salient points but it's pretty indicative of the actual film score and gets the point across without overstaying it's welcome. My honest suggestion would be to try to sample the first track - just doing that will probably tell you if you are on board or not.
Tacked onto the end are two original songs, one called Wild Times written by Jeff Lynne and Michael Kamen and performed by the former while the ubiquitous (Everything I Do) I Do It For You which was a megahit for Bryan Adams at the time, totally rejuvenating his career and giving him another few years at the top of the charts. The booklet has a few photos and liner notes so it's not a bad addition to the package.
Fans of the film - and by gosh there were a lot of them at the time - should probably pick this up as it really does remind you of the film and while it may be somewhat twee the overall tone of the production is one aimed at entertainment. Which can be a worthy cause in it's own right. September 30, 2008
| A Must for Music Lovers |
The quality of the CD is excellent. It is all I had hoped for and more. The music paints a picture of action and magic. The two vocals are great. I made a movie presentation using one of the vocals and the person it was for was very moved by the music. This from a person who usually does not like the style of the vocals.
The soundtrack is well paced and draws the listener into it.
What music will you find on this CD?
Answer: Rollicking good fun; a love story; Sweet and slow; 2 very nice vocals based on the theme music.
There is something for everyone.
The only negative thing I can think of is that this musical feast is too short!
I may have to get the movie just to see if it is as good as the music!
