Intimate, moving, and oh so sexy..
This album is really a pleasure for the senses. As for the less than 40min of album material... Well I can't complain. And for this price..
This album has an average review of 5 stars. That just about sums it up. September 14, 2008

. . . a showcase of their exceptional talents in tenor sax and piano, respectively, that would truly bring out the very best in each other's playing. And the end result is an absolutely inspiring and exquisite album of ballads such as this one, "Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson."

The two jazz giants are joined here by two of their closest friends and long-time collaborators who belong to the finest sidemen America ever produced; bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen. They have created a set of jazz masterpieces. On all the tracks, Ben Webster's playing is as exquisite as Peterson's artistry on the ivories, as engaging as Thigpen's mastery on drums, and as ingenious as Brown's flair on bass.

The terrific group opens this brilliant presentation with "The Touch of Your Lips" and wraps it up with "This Can't Be Love." In between the opener and closer are five equally attention-grabbing tunes executed to sheer perfection. From the seven tracks that are simply oozing with charms and perfect-in-every-way renditions, my top favorites are "Bye Bye Blackbird," "The Touch of Your Lips," "In The Wee Small Hours of The Morning" and "How Deep Is The Ocean."

For fans of Ben Webster and Oscar Peterson Trio or any fan of great jazz music, this is a treasure waiting for you. It's a very welcome addition to your jazz collection. Wholeheartedly recommended. August 6, 2008

This is one of those albums that would end up on a short list of required listening while stranded on a desert island! Few can match Ben Webster on tenor sax or Oscar Peterson on piano. Webster's caressing and fragrant tone slowly wraps the listener in a gentle fog. Peterson counters by weaving cords like a Renaissance master of tapestry. If you love this collaboration, also listen to "Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster" (1957) and "The Tatum Group Masterpieces, Vol. 8" (1956).

This is one of those to-good-to-be-true recordings that you will never get tired of listening to. Ben Webster and Oscar Peterson are just amazing together! Really folks, it doesn't get any better than this. A soft, seductive, and serene collection of ballads that will keep your feet tapping and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. I had this one on really loud one hot summer day and at least four of my neighbors came by inquiring about what I was playing. They all made a point to tell me later that they purchased the CD and thanked me over and over again. This is a perfect recording through and through! Out of the just over 400 jazz albums (CDs) I own, this one is definitely in my top 20, maybe in my top ten. Brown (bass) and Thigpen (drums) are, as always, brilliant! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! However, if you only enjoy it half as much, then it still will be worth purchasing it. This is what jazz is all about! February 5, 2007
