Before Will Smith expanded into acting on large and small screens, he played rapper to Jazzy Jeff's scratcher in a series of semi-novelty radio and video smashes. A teenager empathizing with the peer group his records were aimed at, the Fresh Prince communicated ground-level dispatches on home life ("Parents Just Don't Understand"), would-be romance ("Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble") and Walter Mitty-style flights of fancy ("I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson"). Movie stardom led Smith to put the mic down until the recent Big Willie Style; the success of that disc makes this the right time to revisit his early work, which shares space here with the newer "Men in Black" and "Just Cruisin'." Summertime rocks with the clean hip/hop all rappers need to adopt; quickly! Excellent music

There is no point for anybody to buy "Before the Willennium" cause the "Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince greatest hits album" will give you the same tracks as Before the Willennium and more. The album features their best songs together and if you have never listened to Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince before, this is a good album to start with.

November 10, 2006Will Smiths best songs are on this cd including Boom! Shake the Room,Summertime, Brand New Funk, and Megamix. But if you listen to only one song on this listen to Megamix.
July 25, 2005"Parents Just Don't Understand", "Girls Ain't Nothin' But Trouble" and the "Fresh Prince" theme song are the best of Will Smith's early songs. The rest aren't worth much of a repeat listen. "Summertime" is one of Will's songs that hint at where Big Willie Style was going to tread in 1997. And it's the best song on the album. Awesome and breezy music video too. The sparse remix near the end of the CD donesn't do the original justice. Will's attempts at rapping harder with "Boom Shake the Room" are quite laughable. They're not hardcore, and they're not hard at all. Keep to the catchier songs, Will.
