I picked up Woodface in a Dollar Bin at the flea Market as soon as I saw it, as if I had found a hidden gem and if I were to let go it would immidiatly be stolen. Now that may have been a little far fetched but it WAS a good find. This CD is something that you can pop in and let go. As you'r going about your business whilst listening to this album you will pause and say, "I liked that song" to every song. 'Nuff Said. January 14, 2008

I bought this album inspired by their great compilation "Recurring Dream" . "Woodface" was the logical choice with the outstanding "Weather With You" and the fine singles "Fall at Your Feet" and "It's Only Natural" - moreover "Woodface" is the only album to feature both Finn brothers.

At first the 4 tracks from "Recurring Dream" seemed to be the highlights of the albums, but soon I realized that there was much more to go for.

The Beatles inspiration is obvious on most tracks, not least on the great opener "Chocolate Cake" - "Rubber Soul" ala 1991.

Neil Finn's country-inspired "She Goes On" - is simply beautiful; reminds me of the best tracks of the Eagles' "Desperado".

Drummer Paul Hester's "Italian Plastic" is refreshingly different - with its raw John Lennon approach.

Of course the beautiful folkish "Four Seasons in One Day" has to be brought forward.

A durable album that can be listened to again and again. November 3, 2007

It seems many folks dislike "Chocolate Cake" but I always loved it and found it to be a brilliant commentary on american excess and a great way open the album. Oh well, to each his or her own, I suppose.

WOODFACE is briliant throughout, but you should own it. if for no other reason, for two songs: "Fall at Your Feet" and "Four Seasons in One Day." I've not read all the reviews here, but I'm certain I'm not the first to praise these two beautiful tunes as the best pop songs recorded since the dissolution of The Beatles and the songwriting of Lennon and McCartney. Capitol dropped the ball on the Fabs many times: are we surprised that twenty years later they'd do the same with Crowded House? Where are those corporate morons' ears?

Sorry for the rant. Suffice to say: buy WOODFACE. It's a gorgeous work and you will love it from the moment you hear it. October 31, 2007

Being a child of the 70's and 80's and a huge fan of the various genres of music written at the time, I'd long since made the decision that no band performed music even remotely reminiscient of the great bands of earlier eras - particularly the Beatles. Then, one day while I was rummaging through a record store, I heard some tracks from Woodface being played and instantly fell in love. This was my first real exposure to Crowded House. Since that day, I have gone through 3 copies of "Woodface" and have collected every other CH CD. They're truly a great band and Neil Finn's writing talent is second to none. The comparisons to the Beatles are not without merit. His creativity and ability to weave lyric with music is just astounding. This is one of the best CH efforts and I can't recommend it enough. I had a blank cassette copy of this album in early 1992 that didn't even have the last few songs on it but I loved it! I wore the darn thing out. Some 15 years later, I was trying to recall the band that made the album that I remember adoring for its clever lyrics, upbeat tempos, and my favorite- songs that tend to be in a minor key, slow-tempo-d, and evoke some kind of "Wuthering Heights" type romanticism in me! It took me 45 minutes and some bizarre UK 80's artists search to see the name Crowded House.
Thank goodness for the entire album listening snippets here on Amazon, because I had no idea once I found the band, what album it was!
I listen to this album in my car all the time. Fall at Your Feet is so poetic, I will sometimes repeat it 3 times in row. Weather with You is another fav- the lines that go "Julius Caesar and the Roman empire couldn't conquer the blue sky"- is exactly the type of melody and lyric that instantly creates this sense of timelessness and yearning for something I can't quite explain.
I am so glad I somehow was thinking of that old cassette tape and spent the time tracking this album down! August 29, 2007
