About Frederick Loewe, Moss Hart, Julie Andrews, Mary Berry, Robert Goulet, Richard Burton, Alan Jay Lerner - Camelot (Original Broadway Cast)

For one brief, shining moment, there was a place known as Camelot--and this 1961 recording is the only document available of JFK's favorite musical, the one that's been used to describe his presidential administration ever since. Truthfully, Lerner and Loewe's musical score for this retelling of the King Arthur story doesn't measure up to My Fair Lady, which was still playing when Camelot opened on December 3, 1960. That being said, the three principals here were stronger musically than their 1968 film counterparts--Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet (who became a star as Lancelot, thanks to "If Ever I Would Leave You") could sing, while the pre-Liz Richard Burton could recite those great lines with Shakespearean flair, even if he never scored a hit with "MacArthur Park." --Bill Holdship Amazon.com

Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet. How could you go wrong? They really don't make them like this anymore. Jay Lerner's fantastic songs and a wonderful treatment of T.H. White's "The Once and Future King", one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century, this cd is a must have for any fan of great musicals and probably all of us baby-boomers who still remember our country's own Camelot.

I had this LP years ago. This digitally remastered CD has a better sound. The words to the songs are crisp and clear. The music is wonderful. The songs are romantic and listening to them really lifts your spirits. Robert Goulet's performance is at its best. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys good music.
