What Gives?

Is this a Hong Kong bootleg? The quality is so poor and the singers are so obviously not the original ones that I have to wonder. (Plus, the fact that it is an 'import' should be a big clue for you.) March 28, 2008

Good Songs - Bad Recording

This CD has all the great songs, but most sound like they were literally recorded in a garage. These are not the original hit tracks that got airplay in the 60's and 70's. Pass on this one. July 4, 2006

Buyer Beware!!!!!

These are NOT the original recordings nor are they quality remakes. Strictly budget hour and it's a pity so many will be fooled by the packaging. It's very embarrassing to have the Grass Roots name attached to this.
Get the All-Time Greatest Hits on MCA, or better yet the Rhino Anthology. It's now Out- Of-Print but turns up on Amazon. June 1, 2004

Grassroots Greatest Hits complete sham

I bought this CD, and returned it for a refund in 2001. I am suprised it is still listed in the catalog as it is immediately obvious that the songs are not the originals and the artists could be anybody. This album is a complete misrepresentation and the real product should be found, if it exists at all, and then advertised here. January 21, 2004

It's close, but no cigar...

Being a big fan of 60's and 70's music and finally being dragged kicking and screaming into the new millenium, I went through my thousands of vinyl 45's and LPs to decide which ones I would replace with CDs. I had so many Grassroots 45s, that it was a no-brainer that I should purchase the Greatest Hits rather than find them on compilations. I listened to it today for the first time, and as they say in England, I was gobsmacked. Was that really the Grassroots? Or a tribute band? The voices sound familiar, the style was the same, but something was missing. It sounds as though the singer was reaching for the high notes. The music had a shallow, or one dimension quality. It wasn't rich with the many underlayers of quality sound that kept me singing their songs for all these years. I'm not a musician or a singer, so sorry if the description is poor. These are definitely not the original cuts of the songs. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE the songs. Some of them on my all time top 10 list. This CD release reminds me of them, but I'm keeping the vinyl around until I can burn my own CD of the originals. April 18, 2001
