About Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe

Malevolent megalomaniac or eerie artiste? Rob Zombie is a bit of both. With spooky metal music that's as colorful and kitschy as its comic art, the singer's solo debut bears more than a little resemblance to his band of many years, White Zombie. These 13 tracks (yeah, there just had to be 13!) continue to explore Zombie's fascination with psychotic noise, pummeling grooves, campy samples, and all things horrific. Instead of just playing dictator, however, this astrocreep allows space for cohorts such as guitarist Danny Lohner and drummers John Tempesta and Tommy Lee to shine darkly. He also shares artistic credit for the LP's elaborate 24-page booklet. Zombie's finely crafted disc is heavy-metal thunder that's turbocharged for the new millennium. --Janiss Garza Amazon.com

I thought Rob's first solo outing without White Zombie was his weakest, but still not a bad attempt. Maybe I'm just burnt out on "Dragula" and "Living Dead Girl", but they just do not seem to have the same intensity that White Zombie held. It may not be fair to compare the two, but hell, they have similar names, came from the same person, and both sound alike, Rob Zombie just being a watered down version. There are some excellent tracks on here, "Superbeast" and "Return of the Phantom Stranger" being two of them, but I just did not enjoy this as much as I should have. An average CD for me, a commercial success for Rob Zombie, the good thing is that he only got better from here. So far... April 30, 2008

this album f'n hits...if u dont own a copy of it follow instructions: push start, then shut down, hop in jalopy and drive to local record store to purchase it. 13 songs (13 tales of cadaverous cavorting inside the spookshow international) stand out songs are living dead girl, dragula and superbeast but you can play the entire album from start to finish no problem. if you like to bang your head then you will surely love this! Review #335. Rob Zombie's first solo work after he took a short leave from White Zombie. I remember telling fans that he'll go solo ONLY if this debut of his sells good enough for him to spark up a solo career. Looks like I was right, as Rob never went back to White Zombie since. Tracks here that will remain as true 'extreme metal' gems to us loyal long-timers include "Call Of The Zombie", the *ss-stomper "Dragula" (still like catching the video for this song), "How To Make A Monster", the awesome mosh-pit staple "Living Dead Girl" and "Spookshow Baby". Simply a must-have, if there's still anyone out there that doesn't possess a copy. February 25, 2007

Hellbilly Deluxe has to be the best & far most addictive album of all his solos yet the best of them all. Sinister Urge is a second best then Educated Horses which is last in my book.

"Dragula", "Superbeast", & "Living Dead Girl". 3 great singles in one album & not to mention other great horrific tracks like "Meet The Creeper", "The Ressurection Of Ballad Joe & Rosa W****", "What Lurks On Channel X?", "Demonoid Phenomenom", & "Return Of The Phantom Stranger" will geet you spooken & rocking between your socks as your head chuckles left & right, Zombie style!

This is great for horror metal fans or any heavy metal fans whoever likes that is, metal!

P.S. like I said, Zombie, Zombie! Cause Zombie rocks & rules! January 12, 2007
